First Night Oil City 2021

December 31, 2020 @ 5:00 pm 10:00 pm EST

The Oil City Arts Council is proud to present First Night Oil City 2021, carrying on its popular tradition of ringing in the new year with enjoyable family-friendly activities in downtown Oil City. Set for December 31, 2020 during the late afternoon and evening hours, First Night Oil City 2021 will take place on a very limited scale from prior years.

This year’s “Fire and Ice” themed celebration will feature four ice sculptures in various locations. A large life-sized sleigh and two reindeer, along with the logo for Oil City’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2021 will be in the Town Square in the city’s North Side; a throne will be on display in King Memorial Park along Main Street, and three penguins will be situated at Central Avenue Plaza on the city’s South Side. Ice sculptures by award-winning Ice Creations of Pittsburgh will be pre-carved and then finished onsite on December 29 and 30. On New Years Eve, selfies and photos are encouraged! At midnight, fireworks will thrill jubilant spectators and revelers. Fireworks will be set off behind the bandshell in Justus Park.

Due to safety concerns and protocols related to the current pandemic, there will be no public indoor concerts or large group gatherings. As the sculptures and fireworks are viewed, organizers ask that masks be worn and social distancing take place in accordance with CDC guidelines and protocol. No admission buttons will be sold this year and all planned activities are free to the public. Interested donors may contribute by sending a check payable to the Oil City Arts Council to the City of Oil City, 21 Seneca Street, Oil City, PA 16301.
